They were accused of engaging in same-sex activity (sodomy), contrary to the provisions of the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2014, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. On the 15th of December, 2023, Chiwetalu Ifeyinwa Sylvia was reported by her husband, Mr. Emeka Chiwetalu, at Inland Town Police Station, Onitsha, Anambra State, in a case involving the killing of her lesbian partner, Ikuni Odili, when they were in Ado Girls Secondary School, Inland Town. The husband stated that the suspect, whom he married, was a lesbian and that she caused the killing of her partner, Ikuni Odili, before fleeing. He also said he had caught her several times with another lesbian girlfriend and presented a photograph of Ifeyinwa Chiwetalu with a naked lesbian girlfriend as evidence to the police while making his report.
