Fear and uncertainty have taken hold of a quiet Mbaise community in Imo State after an Europe-based returnee was kidnapped, Mr. Udochukwu Ohuakanwa.

This is a case that has shaken families, stirred old wounds, and revived concerns about safety along a once-busy highway.

What should have been a simple evening journey turned into a nightmare. On January 8, 2026, around 8:50 p.m., Mr. Ohuakanwa was reportedly abducted In Mbaise while traveling along the Umuahia–Owerri express Road. Since that moment, his family has been left in agonizing silence, with no contact, no claim of responsibility, and no clear direction from authorities yet.

Each passing day has deepened anxiety among relatives and neighbors who describe him as a peaceful man who had only recently returned home. But for those close to the Ohuakanwa family, this incident did not happen in isolation, it reopened a trail of fear that allegedly began months earlier.
Residents recall earlier violent visits to the family compound by armed men who reportedly issued chilling warnings.
According to a local source who requested anonymity for safety reasons, the first incident occurred on August 15, 2025, when gunmen allegedly stormed the compound. Witnesses say shots were fired into the air as the attackers sent out a threat message that no member of the Ohuakanwa family should be seen in the compound or even in the country.
The name repeatedly mentioned during the threats was a figure named “Mayor,” who is now being alleged by sources as the possible mastermind of the continues attacks.
Community members say the hostility may be tied to a business dispute abroad involving Mr. Paschal Ohuakanwa and the alleged sponsor of the attacks, which is connected to financial disagreements and dealings in France.
The gunmen reportedly accused Mr. Paschal of betraying and exposing their boss to French authorities, leading to heavy losses.

Since then, the family has allegedly lived under the shadow of retaliation.
The tension escalated again in October 2025. Armed men were said to have returned to the compound after suspecting that Mr. Paschal’s mother, Mrs. Anna Ohuakanwa, was visiting.
According to witnesses, the attackers damaged perimeter fencing and forced entry into parts of the building through the doors they broke open.
By what many describe as sheer luck, Mrs. Anna had left earlier that same day. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots once again before the men fled. Now, with the abduction of Udochukwu, residents fear the threats have moved from intimidation to execution.
Families in the area say the emotional toll is spreading, children are being kept indoors earlier, night travel has reduced, and community meetings have grown tense.
Many worry that insecurity may be quietly resurfacing in the region.
As of the time of this report, authorities have not released an official statement, and Mr. Ohuakanwa’s whereabouts remain unknown.
For his family, each unanswered call and everyunfamiliar sound brings renewed dread, growing plea for swift government or human right intervention.
